What is a Biogas Plant

Biogas, generated by the anaerobic fermentation of organic matter, is produced and controlled in biogas plants that regulate biomass and temperature. The methane obtained can be used in boilers for thermal use, in engines or turbines to generate electricity and heat, or as purified natural gas for injection into the gas grid or for vehicular use.

Biogas plants offer economic benefits through energy sales and cost reductions, enhance the fertilizer value of digestate, and reduce odors and weed seeds. Additionally, they diversify business activities, contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the Paris Agreement (2016), decrease pollution from agricultural waste, and improve the perception of the agricultural sector.

From Biogas to Biomethane

Biomethane is biogas that has been purified and enriched to achieve a composition very similar to that of conventional natural gas. It is produced through an anaerobic digestion process, which is the decomposition of organic matter by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen.
